Founding President, Black Star International Film Festival (Ghana)

A grand medal awardee (Ghana state award) Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante is the founding CEO of the National film Authority of Ghana (the oversight body of the Ghana film industry), the recent past Board Chair of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) of Ghana.   

She is the Founding President of the Black Star International Film Institute, organizers of the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF), the largest and most impactful film Festival in Ghana and the convener of the ‘Africa Cinema summit’, described as the premiere film event in Africa.  

Juliet served on the World Economic Forum’s Global Entertainment Council for two years. Juliet was one of first people to pioneer the idea of short films made especially for your mobile phones. Working with some of the largest network providers on the continent of Africa, including MTN to launch Mobilefliks. She is a screenwriter and regular writer and blogger, including blogging for the Huffington Post for a number of years.   

Her film ‘Silverain’ was nominated ’best film in Africa’ by the AMVCA, winning ‘Best costume’. She served as a mentor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technolog’s (MIT) Sloan school of business, lectured communications at Webster University and is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.  

She is a management consultant, change agent and change manager and has been described as a   strategic and innovative thinker.
